Part O is a recent addition to the building regulations. It seeks to limit excessive solar gains within homes and mandate sufficient natural ventilation to remove heat without recourse to mechanical cooling. There are two methods of compliance;
The Simplified Method concentrates on percentages or ratios of glass to floor area and equivalent free area to floor area. It is certainly the least complicated method of compliance, but can place undesirable restrictions on glazed areas, particularly if a home is westerly facing.
The Dynamic Model method utilises CIBSE TM59:2017, but with specific restrictions on the calculation unique to Part O.
We provide the industry with both methods of compliance. Again in a concise and uncomplicated reporting method.
